The business of events is experiencing a shift in the driving force behind event growth through influencers thanks to technology and social media. Marketing Guru, Seth Godin believes the key marketing tool of any event is building tribes. In this rebroadcast of his TEDtalk, The Tribes We Lead, Seth defines the process by which ideas are created, spread and implemented centered on pioneering new ways of obtaining more followers.

Following Seth’s TEDtalk rebroadcast, Janeé Pelletier will facilitate a discussion on applying the concept of tribes to business events by illustrating how you can create a movement at your next event.

Presenters:

Seth is an entrepreneur, best-selling author, and speaker. In addition to launching one of the most popular blogs in the world, he has written 18 best-selling books, including The Dip, Linchpin, Purple Cow, Tribes, and What To Do When It’s Your Turn (And It’s Always Your Turn). Though renowned for his writing and speaking, Seth also founded two companies, Squidoo and Yoyodyne (acquired by Yahoo!). By focusing on everything from effective marketing and leadership, to the spread of ideas and changing everything, Seth has been able to motivate and inspire countless people around the world. In 2013, Seth was one of just three professionals inducted into the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame. In an astonishing turn of events, in May 2018, he was inducted into the Marketing Hall of Fame as well. He might be the only person in both.

Janeé Pelletier, MBA, CMP, DES is an accomplished events executive and communications strategist for nonprofit and high-tech clients. In her 15+ years of meetings leadership, Janeé has successfully managed hundreds of conferences across North America, Europe, and Asia. Janeé has extensive communications and logistics expertise including the development and deployment of international road show events, complex technical exhibits, art installations, and conventions of more than 5,000 attendees. Janeé also has deep marketing expertise in digital and traditional media.

Prior to joining the MdBio team, Janeé spent ten years building a portfolio of marketing and events at Conference & Logistics Consultants, a full service conference management and consulting firm specializing in national and international conventions. Janeé serves on the board of directors for the Professional Convention Management Association, as well as adjunct faculty at Howard Community College’s Center for Hospitality and Culinary Studies. Janeé has an M.B.A. in Marketing from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. from Messiah College. When she’s not working or traveling, you can usually find her in the kitchen.
