SUMMARY:Making Your Event Sustainable: A New Priority
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, May 12\nTime 4:30 p.m.\nAccording to International Organization for Standardization 20121\, sustainable event management is the process of integrating environmental and corporate social responsibility issues into event planning. Sustainable events require you consider the needs of various parties that are impacted by your event. On the one hand\, you take steps to reduce negative impacts\, such as solid waste. While on the other hand you also seek out opportunities for events to give positive benefits to local communities. \nRunning greener meetings isn’t on every event planners’ radar but there are lots of reasons why you should be producing more sustainable events. There are many altruistic reasons to make your events more sustainable. But don’t forget the financial reason too. At this event\, we’ll explore the benefits of designing events with sustainability in mind\, in a way that makes financial sense. We’ll lay out the steps to build a business case to convince your organizations leaders to initiate sustainability initiatives for your events and venues by using food waste in Baltimore\, MD as an example. \nOur panel for the PCMA Chesapeake May 2020 Educational Event on Sustainability\, comes from the Baltimore area and spoke on this topic at the 2020 PCMA Convening Leaders meeting.
