SUMMARY:Making Your Event Sustainable: A New Priority
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, May 12\nTime 4:30 p.m.\nAccording to International Organization for Standardization 20121\, sustainable event management is the process of integrating environmental and corporate social responsibility issues into event planning. Sustainable events require you consider the needs of various parties that are impacted by your event. On the one hand\, you take steps to reduce negative impacts\, such as solid waste. While on the other hand you also seek out opportunities for events to give positive benefits to local communities. \nRunning greener meetings isn’t on every event planners’ radar but there are lots of reasons why you should be producing more sustainable events. There are many altruistic reasons to make your events more sustainable. But don’t forget the financial reason too. At this event\, we’ll explore the benefits of designing events with sustainability in mind\, in a way that makes financial sense. We’ll lay out the steps to build a business case to convince your organizations leaders to initiate sustainability initiatives for your events and venues by using food waste in Baltimore\, MD as an example. \nOur panel for the PCMA Chesapeake May 2020 Educational Event on Sustainability\, comes from the Baltimore area and spoke on this topic at the 2020 PCMA Convening Leaders meeting. In this session you’ll learn the relationship between sustainability practices and business objectives\, learn how to build a business case for adding sustainability practices\, and learn how to collect data that can demonstrate the benefits and cost of incorporating sustainability. \nOur panel for this webinar are: \nMac Campbell – Deputy Director\, Baltimore Convention Center\nChuck Schlagenauf– Director of Operations\, Centerplate Catering\nAurora Benton – Founder\, Astrapto\nSheila LeMaster – Vice President of Exhibitor Sales\, GES \nRegistration Now Open!

SUMMARY:Best in Class Speaker and Lighthouse Awards Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday afternoon\, November 14 at the Holiday Inn Baltimore – Inner Harbor for this exciting educational and networking session. Meet the new 2019 PCMA Chesapeake Board and see who are our 2018 award winners. \nWith four generations of professionals coming together\, event professionals must learn how to craft meetings\, events and trade shows to meet the expanded range of expectations. Millennials and Gen Z professionals soon will represent the majority of the work force\, and they have much higher expectations for experiences overall than preceding generations.\n\n\nDesigning the learning experiences and the locations in which we bring people together must now start with studying the habits of Gen Z and Millennials. For these younger professionals\, community spaces are extensions of their homes. Alternative creative spaces is where this group prefers to work – they are working in extreme comfort\, on their own timelines and increasingly remotely. \nBut what happens when they arrive at the annual convention or a corporate event? Our team of strategic designers are looking at the three pillars of how people are learning\, connecting and experiencing — and doing so with technology weaved throughout. \n\nLearner Outcomes: \nTighten the experience by pulling activities closer together to be more centrally located – your ecosystem of attendees\, exhibitors and sponsors; Design spaces with multiple casual interactions\, editing so spaces feel welcoming and not a billboard – younger generations trust people not commercials; Capitalize on the “festivalization” trend and blur the lines between trade show\, corporate event and live experiences \nAbout our Speaker – Nicole O’Leary \nNicole leads Experience Design as the Vice President\, Creative at The Expo Group\, leading their creative teams and customer strategy to design and deliver unique\, compelling and memorable experiences that attract\, engage\, immerse and reward. Nicole is a 17-year veteran having led the experience design and creative efforts for large associations\, corporate events and global brands. \nFocusing on attendee-journey-centric design means creating physical\, emotional and learning environments that ensure a complete immersion of client’s audiences in their brands for all generations.\nNicole is a firm believer that great design is NOT budget-dependent. \nWhen she’s not with one of our customers or leading design\, try and catch her between sailing in Buzzards Bay on Cape Cod or snowboarding with her family. Sports and cooking are two of her passions. \n  \nSchedule:\n4:30 p.m. – Registration Opens \n5:00 p.m. – Program and Presentations \n6:30 p.m. – Networking Reception \n\nProfessional Members – $20\, Supplier Members – $40\nNon-Member Professionals – $30\, Non-Member Suppliers – $50 \nThanks to our Host Venue! \n \nThanks to our Event Sponsor! \n \n

SUMMARY:Everybody Hates AV. There\, I Said It. Now\, Let’s Fix It - October 17\, 2017
DESCRIPTION:Talk to any group of meeting planners and they’ll tell you that one of the most frustrating elements of planning and executing any conference is the AV.   From planning to budgeting to on-site issues\, AV is what often keeps them up at night.  It’s mysterious and complicated.  It’s changing all the time.  It’s expensive\, and frankly\, it can make or break an event. \nThe flip side is\, AV can add sizzle and create an emotional connection between your event\, event message and audience. It can take the overall impression of your conference from “met expectations” to “mind blown”.  But how do you harness the beast that is AV? \nIn this interactive session\, AV and event producer Stephen O’Connor will unlock some of the basic mysteries of AV in order to improve your overall knowledge and control.  You’ll walk away with: \n\nAn overall understanding of the perplexing world of AV and over 30 insider secrets.\nSome of the most important basics in planning for AV – venue considerations\, shopping for vendors\, and labor.\nA better understanding of the fine print of venue and AV contracts and how to adjust them to satisfy your meeting’s objectives and budget.\n\nStephen O’Connor is the owner and CEO of O’Design Productions and Consulting\, a breakthrough company that provides audio visual productions\, consulting\, and training to meeting professionals\, companies and associations. A former Disney employee\, Hollywood producer and Vice President of Sales and Marketing for various AV and event companies\, Stephen approaches conference AV in a completely different way – from a creative sou and a meeting planner’s heart. The result is an efficient process that removes the headache and hassle normally associated with conference AV\, and replaces it with the free mind space needed to create a heightened conference experience – regardless of budget. \n  \nGet Involved with the PCMA Chesapeake Chapter!!\nWe will be holding a Committee Fair during this event. Come meet with current committee members and learn how you can contribute your special talents to the PCMA Chesapeake Chapter. Not only is it rewarding to become involved\, you can make valuable networking contacts and earn credit towards your CMP certification / recertification. \nSCHEDULE\n4:30 pm – Registration Begins \n4:30 pm – Committee Fair Begins \n5:00 pm – Program \n \nThanks to our venue host!\n \nThanks to our sponsors!
